After taking part in Boys & Girls Clubs’ Youth of the Year program, six St. Lucie County teens will embark on a journey to Guatemala to spend their spring break giving back to youth and families abroad. An initiative that began in 2023 is set to continue on Saturday, March 16th when the group of young leaders will fly from Miami to Antigua, Guatemala alongside family members and Boys & Girls Clubs staff. There, they will spend the week exploring the country and working to support local Guatemalan communities, combining workforce readiness with character and leadership development initiatives.

One of the ways these teens plan on giving back to Guatemalans is through their work with local organization Creating Opportunities for Guatemalans. With a mission of providing education and opportunities to young students, Creating Opportunities for Guatemalans aligns closely with Boys & Girls Clubs’ vision for future generations. They plan to also travel to Chimaltenango to work in collaboration with St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity on laying concrete floors in village homes.

Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County’s mission is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. This year, the organization exceeded program expectations once again by spearheading this trip and offering this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to a record-breaking six Club members. Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County plans to continue providing these worldly, life-enriching programs to all Club members in their efforts to foster Great Futures.
