Throughout spring break this year, our Chuck Hill Club members were generously treated to free lunches thanks to a partnership with GL Homes and their “Hunger Never Takes a Break” initiative. Thanks to this delicious collaboration, nearly 100 Club members were fed and their families relieved of the burden to plan and provide meals for their families while school was out. 

GL Homes even took it a step further and quite literally stepped up to the plate on Monday, March 18th when they personally served each Club member a gourmet feast from local Italian restaurant, Tutto Fresco.

We’re immensely grateful to GL Homes for their commitment to supporting our Club members and their healthy habits, which will undoubtedly fuel their future success,” said Will Armstead, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County. 

For many families, the absence of school meals during breaks can pose a significant challenge. GL Homes’ generous gesture not only provided essential nourishment but also alleviated the stress of parents struggling to make ends meet.

“Over time, we’ve seen that school-provided meals are a lifeline. When schools are out, Boys & Girls Clubs are there to alleviate any strain and uncertainty, and we can’t do that without partners like GL Homes. Initiatives like these provide our Club families with a sense of security and allow our members to focus on learning and having fun on their break,” said Kaitlyn Swoope, Vice President of Club Services & 21st Century for Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County.

However, what truly sets this initiative apart is its unexpected educational dimension. Through the introduction of new and diverse foods, particularly to the younger Club members, this partnership has become a catalyst for broadening horizons and expanding palates. Surprisingly, many youngsters were unfamiliar with the concept of “Italian food” and hesitated to embrace seemingly basic dishes like mashed potatoes. Yet, as they ventured into this culinary exploration, they discovered a world of flavors and textures previously unknown to them.

As we reflect on the impact of this collaboration, we are reminded of the profound difference that acts of generosity and community spirit can make in the lives of those we serve. It is through these impactful partnerships that we are able to pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
