For hundreds of St. Lucie County students who have not yet attended a Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County (BGCSLC), they can now join the new Westside Club on Jenkins Road in Fort Pierce. The Club’s new Westside location provides after-school programs and activities for students attending six schools – Fairlawn Elementary, St. Lucie Elementary, Weatherbee Elementary, White City Elementary, Samuel Gaines Academy, and Lawnwood Elementary.  In partnership with the St. Lucie School district, transportation to the Westside Club from the six schools will be included in their Club membership. The Westside Club is conveniently open until 6:00 PM for parents to pick up their children.
Many students stay home after school without adult supervision.  “Latch key kids left to their own devices are more susceptible to bad behaviors and influences,” said Linda Soto, Vice President of Specialized Programs. “We have the best programs, recreation, and resources to keep children from K-12 safe and engaged in life-enhancing programs.”
In addition to the new Westside Club, BGCSLC offers before and after school care at sixteen school-based sites in St. Lucie County where students can transition to Club activities after the final bell rings at their school. Parents can pick up their children whenever it is convenient for them until 6:00 PM.
“Offering children and teens a safe place to be where they can grow, learn and be with friends is a staple of what we do,” said Will Armstead, CEO of BGCSLC.
