A buzz of excitement is threaded through the Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County (BGCSLC) as they prepare for this year’s Youth of the Year celebration. On Wednesday, February 5th, one exceptional Club member will be named to serve as an ambassador, representing all 20 local Clubs before moving on to Regional competition. on a State and National level. The event will be held at Club Talavera at PGA Verano in Tradition and is open to the community.

This year five candidates will be sharing their story as Club members who have exemplified the Boys & Girls Club mission. Their stories give proof to the impact Clubs make to enable all young people, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Becoming Youth of the Year is an exciting and inspiring journey. Competing for this year’s recognition are: Amy (Chuck Hill Clubhouse) who hopes to become a maternity nurse. Mia, (Garden Terrace Clubhouse) who has her sights on Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Aniya, (Infinity Clubhouse) a leader on her Club’s dance team and believes in investing in our community. Jedd, (Ken Pruitt Clubhouse) an aspiring entrepreneur. Malakii, (Percy Peek Clubhouse) recognizes his mind is a powerful thing and strives to be a lifelong learner.

The winner will receive a generous scholarship from GL Homes. Each of the four runner ups will receive a scholarship from The Andrew and Robin Hunt Philanthropic Fund at The Community Foundation Martin – St. Lucie.
