Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County proudly announces Leeandrea Jones as the 2015 Youth of the Year. “Youth of the Year is the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County’s premier youth recognition program celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club members. The Youth of the Year embodies the values of leadership, character and service; academic excellence; and healthy lifestyles. Leenadrea embodies these values and we are honored to have her receive this special recognition,” said Michael A. Sancho, CEO.

Leeandrea Jones has been a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County, Chuck Hill Unit for five years and is currently a senior at Lincoln Park Academy. Leeandrea is a diligent and focused student with a weighted GPA of 4.9. She is dually enrolled at Indian River State College and will be receiving both her high school diploma and her Associate’s in Arts Degree in May 2015. She plans to attend The Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) and pursue a career in the medical field as a Pharmacist or an Occupational Therapist.

Leeandrea Jones was one of four candidates who competed to receive the Clubs highest distinction. Each candidate completed a thorough and in-depth application, followed by an intense interview with a distinguished panel of seven judges. To complete the process each candidate gave a three minute speech in front of the judges, family, friends, volunteers and Club staff.

As the 2015 Youth of the Year winner, Leeandrea Jones was presented with a two year scholarship to Indian River State College, a $1500 scholarship from the Peter W. Busch Family Foundation & a sponsorship on an Honor Flight- donated by Dr. Shamsher Singh.

Our other Youth of the Year candidates have also received an I-Pad from the Peter W. Busch Family Foundation and four passes to the St. Lucie County Fair.
This year’s judges were Amber Woods of Treasure Coast Lexus and Toyota, Karla Tovar of Aztec Graphix, Pete Tesch of Economic Development Council of SLC, Philip Busch of Southern Eagle Distributing, Scott Camire of A/C Advantage Inc., Tamara Williams of Sweet Life Realty Group, & Travis Leonard of A&G Concrete Pools.

“We want to thank our judges and sponsors that have generously given to celebrate our Youth of the Year candidates: A & G Concrete Pools, Indian River State College, The Peter W. Busch Family Foundation, Post Insurance, St. Lucie County Fair Association, St. Lucie Medical Center & Dr. Shamsher Singh,” said Will Armstead, Chief Volunteer Officer of the Boys & Girls Club.

The Youth of the Year program creates opportunities for Club youth to receive recognition at the local, state, regional and national levels. Leeandrea will go on to compete at the state level in May. Each year, five Regional Youth of the Year, along with the Military Youth of the Year, will travel to Washington, D.C., to participate in a judging process that will determine the National Youth of the Year.
