In partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters, teen Club members mentor younger Club members at the Boys & Girls Club, helping younger kids with homework, providing positive role models and helping younger members understand the importance and value in attending school (this program is only offered at our Ken Pruitt Unit at this time).
Truancy Prevention Program
Sponsored by the Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County, our staff works with elementary schools, parents and elementary aged students who miss five or more days of school. The goal of the program is to educate parents on the school policy and state law, while recommending services and suggestions on how to help lower the number of unexcused absences from school.
Through The Boys and Girls Club of St. Lucie Counties strategic planning process, we have identified a strong need to attract and retain teens in our neighborhood Clubhouses. We have been fortunate to experience a significant rise in our teen population due to new programs offered as a result of the Year Of The Teen Initiative. For example, Lyricism, a program that gives teens an opportunity to tell their stories, build community and express their artistic visions through music and the culture of the cipher has been a major attractor. In addition to our annual Teen Summit, College Tours, Career Field Trips, Mentoring Program and a robust Jr. Staff Program.
Summer Food Program
The program sponsored by Treasure Coast Food Bank, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services allows Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County to deliver free, nutritious meals to people ages 18 and under during the extended summer school vacation. This includes all Boys & Girls Clubs and several other camps across the county.
